Being from California, I am all about the beachy vibes. But there is something so magical about a destination wedding in Sweden! I had the joy of capturing Nicolina and Andrei’s gorgeous European wedding in Sweden and it was a dream. They decided to get married at a private estate, which made it that much more magical. If you are wondering if a Sweden wedding is for you, then keep reading! I’m going to cover my top 5 reasons on why you should consider a destination wedding or elopement in Sweden.
Gorgeous Landscapes
Sweden is known for its breathtaking landscapes that would be the perfect backdrop for your wedding photos! When I tell you that the possibilities are truly endless for your wedding day to take place, I really mean it. Sweden has a wide mix of picturesque lakes, forests and wide coasts that would make your wedding day a dream! If you are outdoorsy people and want to incorporate that into your wedding day, consider Lake Vättern, Tiveden National Park or Archipelago of Stockholm! Those are just a few of the amazing landscapes that Sweden has to offer and if those don’t fit feel like what you are looking for then please let me know and I can recommend so many more spots that could be perfect for your destination wedding day in Sweden!
Magical Venues
If you’d prefer an elegant indoor wedding, Sweden definitely does not fall short! The best part about having your destination wedding in Sweden is that it has a range of beautiful venues. From historic castles to modern boutique hotels, it has it ALL. Of course, depending on your preferred style there are options for everyone! You will be guaranteed to find something in Sweden that will fit your style. Some of my favorites include Drottningholm Palace, Gripsholm Castle, Läckö Castle and Vadstena Castle! But, don’t fret because that’s not all there is to offer! Since I have had the pleasure of being a part of other destination weddings in Sweden, I can recommend even more!! Unique Cultural Experience
Another one of my favorite parts of having my couples choose Sweden as their destination wedding location is that they can infuse the Swedish culture into their wedding day! It is a great way to have the whole Swedish experience tied into your wedding day! Think: local customs, cuisines and music to feel right at home during your wedding in Sweden.
Some of my favorite Swedish wedding traditions include Maypole Dancing, Swedish Toasting Customs and Ring Warming Ceremony. So unique and fun! Don’t forget about the cuisine. I would also highly recommend adding in traditional food familiar to the Swedish culture, because it is absolutely delicious! Some great ideas to add are Smörgåsbord, Swedish Meatballs and Fika! I promise you won’t be disappointed when choosing these as some of your main dishes on your wedding day. Yum! Then, to top everything off, you can dance the night away with some Traditional Folk Music or an ABBA tribute! Sounds like the perfect destination wedding day in Sweden to me, doesn’t it?
Midnight Sun or Northern Lights
Depending on the time of year you chose for your Swedish wedding, you might experience two phenomenons! And, both are absolutely incredible!! The first is the Midnight Sun, usually seen in the Swedish Lapland during summer time between end of May and mid July. Midnight sun is when the sun never dips below the horizon! And, it is absolutely breathtaking!
On the other hand, we have the more commonly known Northern Lights. They are the most sought after phenomenon to experience. And, I totally understand why, because well, they are gorgeous! To see the Northern Lights, head to northern Sweden between the months of September and March! The sky will be filled with dancing streaks of pink, green and purple. A gorgeous way to end your wedding night! A great way to incorporate the feeling of adventure to your wedding day!!
Ease of Travel
Planning a destination wedding seems stressful and daunting, but Sweden makes it easier! Sweden has a well developed infrastructure making it easy for you and your guests to travel to and within the country while you are there. Sweden has international airports, efficient public transportation and the use of the English language which makes it much easier while you are there enjoying your wedding time! One of the best parts of Sweden is that everyone is super excepting on travelers and destination weddings, so it really feels like this is the best place to say your I Do’s at!
